On July 31, decentralized exchange Aster announced that its Vault beta has concluded and the feature is now available to all users.
Any user who meets the platform’s requirements can now set up their own Vault or invest in one. This lets traders package their perpetual trading strategies into products others can invest in, while building a public performance history.
According to Aster, creating a Vault requires holding at least 100 ASTER tokens and putting in a minimum deposit of $100 in a supported asset.
The company set up three separate Vault types, giving managers more leeway to decide who gets to join. These are Public, Private, and Flexible Vaults.
Public Vaults are open to anyone who wants to find and invest in them, like traders looking to build a track record and draw in capital from the broader community. Private Vaults allow managers to handpick who gets in, which is best for private groups or invite-only communities. Flexible Vaults mix the two, giving managers more say over who joins while still keeping things open when they want.
Altogether, these options push Aster more toward being an on-chain asset management platform, rather than simply another decentralized exchange for perpetuals. The company specifically mentioned in its announcement, “Vaults are created and managed by users. Aster does not endorse individual managers or strategies.”
What is Aster Vault?
Aster Vault is essentially an on-chain managed trading product. Instead of everyone having to trade perpetual futures themselves, users can just deposit their funds into a Vault that’s run by an experienced trader.
The manager does the trading for the Vault, and any profits or losses get split among participants based on how much they put in. Managers earn a share of realized profits if their strategy performs well.
This lowers the barrier for users who want in on active perpetual trading without having to make every trading decision themselves.
The public launch follows the Vault Beta that Aster introduced on July 24, which only had a handful of managers and Vaults available. The beta phase was used to gather user input before expanding access to more users.
