With the launch of PayBox, users can ask ChatGPT or Claude to swap tokens, bridge assets, book travel or make purchases using natural language, while keeping full control of their wallets and funds.

AI Can Finally Move Money
AI assistants can already research investments, compare yield strategies and plan complex transactions. The one thing they haven't been able to do is actually move money.
PayBox aims to change that.
By connecting a custom connector inside ChatGPT or Claude, users can swap tokens, bridge assets, interact with DeFi protocols and pay merchants across the open internet—all without leaving the conversation.
The AI prepares each transaction, but the user remains in control. According to MoonPay, AI never has access to wallet keys, card details or customer funds.
A Wallet Your AI Never Controls
The biggest challenge for AI-powered payments isn't convenience—it's trust. Giving an AI direct access to a wallet creates obvious security risks. Instead, PayBox separates transaction execution from asset custody.
Wallet keys are secured using multi-party computation (MPC) together with trusted execution environments (TEEs), preventing any single party—including MoonPay or the AI agent itself—from accessing the complete private key or independently signing transactions.
For card payments, PayBox integrates Visa's agentic commerce protocol, allowing AI to complete purchases without ever exposing the underlying card number.
Users choose how much autonomy they want to give their AI. Under Always Ask, every transaction requires passkey approval.
Under Autonomous, AI agents can complete transactions within spending limits and permissions defined by the user. Every authorization is limited to a single action and can be revoked instantly.
From Crypto to Everyday Payments
While PayBox supports crypto-native actions such as swapping tokens, bridging assets and interacting with DeFi protocols, MoonPay is positioning it as something much broader than another crypto wallet.
Using the emerging x402 payment standard, AI agents can pay any service built to accept agent-initiated payments. Initial integrations include travel bookings, restaurant reservations and online shopping, with additional services expected to roll out over the coming weeks.
PayBox launches with support for Solana alongside EVM-compatible networks including Ethereum, Base, Robinhood Chain, Arbitrum, Polygon, Hyperliquid and Tempo.
The infrastructure behind the product comes from Sodot, the key management company MoonPay acquired earlier this year. According to MoonPay, Sodot's technology already secures more than 10 million wallets and over $50 billion in digital assets, infrastructure that now underpins every PayBox vault.
AI Is Becoming Financial Infrastructure
MoonPay CEO Ivan Soto-Wright believes AI is entering the same transformation payments experienced over the past two decades.
"The card hid the cash. The phone hid the card. This is the era where money disappears into conversation. Billions of AI agents are coming online, and every one of them will need to hold, move, and spend money safely. Someone had to build the trust layer for that world. We just did. PayBox is the product that MoonPay was built to make."
MoonPay plans to expand PayBox beyond payments, allowing AI agents to manage liquidity, trade perpetual futures and carry out more advanced DeFi strategies within limits set by the user.
The launch also reflects a broader shift happening across the industry. AI is becoming the way people interact with financial services, while blockchain is quietly moving into the background. Instead of opening wallets, exchanges and payment apps, users will simply tell an AI what they want to do.
If that trend continues, the future of digital finance may look very different. Blockchain won't disappear—it will simply become the technology running behind the scenes, while conversations with AI become the new way people move money.
