Bitget Wallet becomes the first self-custody wallet to natively integrate itself into Vietnam’s national QR payment system, allowing users in the region to scan the VietQR code and directly pay in crypto.

According to a press release sent to crypto.news, the new feature would allow users to pay with crypto by simply scanning VietQR, which is Vietnam’s national QR code standard. Now, Vietnamese customers can pay in crypto at over two million local merchants directly through the application.

Everyday transactions like having dinner at street vendors and restaurants or buying groceries at the local Vietnamese supermarket can be completed through a single scan.

The integration is part of the Bitget Wallet’s wider PayFi initiative to offer support for national QR payments. After Vietnam, Bitget Wallet has more integrations planned across Southeast Asia, Latin America, and other regions.

The integration makes Bitget Wallet the first self-custodial wallet to natively integrate itself into a country’s national QR code payment system.

The platform supports payments made through a variety of cryptocurrencies, including stablecoins like USDT (USDT) and USDC (USDC) which are support through chains like Ethereum (ETH), Tron (TRX), Solana (SOL), Base (BASE), TON (TON) and BNB Chain (BNB). According to the press release, more chains are going to be added in the future.

Not only that, the platform also plans to enable auto-swap support that will allow users to pay in any token without needing fiat conversion.

CMO of Bitget Wallet, Jamie Elkaleh, said in his statement that the aim of integrating the crypto payment platform into Vietnam’s national QR payment system is to turn crypto into “an investment asset into a usable currency.”

“By embedding local payment rails directly into the wallet via our partnership with AEON, we’re helping users spend their assets as easily as they store them — starting in Southeast Asia, and soon expanding to other regions,” said Elkaleh.

As part of the new feature, Bitget Wallet is offering a 50% cashback on payments made through the national QR code payment. The promotion is limited to the first 50,000 new users and is valid starting from June 16 to July 30.
