SkyBridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramucci accused Republicans on Sunday of intentionally holding up the CLARITY Act in the Senate to scapegoat Democrats and later cash in on political donations.
Scaramucci Hits Out at Republicans
In an X post, Scaramucci urged that the cryptocurrency legislation be brought to the floor to see “who actually is supporting it and who doesn’t.”
“So it now feels like the Republicans don’t want the Clarity Act to pass so that they can blame the Democrats for not passing it and then seek donations from the crypto industry in the Fall,” the Bitcoin bull alleged.
Scaramucci called on the cryptocurrency industry to withhold any funding unless the Republicans put the bill up for a vote.
The former White House Communications Director expressed frustration with what he viewed as a partisan battle— Democrats are unwilling to grant President Donald Trump a victory, and Republicans are stalling the legislation to get funds from the cryptocurrency industry before the midterms.
Lummis Responds
Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), one of the most vocal backers of the legislation in the upper chamber, said she “understands the frustration,” but that the Republicans are doing everything they can to get the bill to the floor and pass.
“We are ready and willing to get this across the finish line,” Lummis added.
Will the Impasse End?
Scaramucci has been critical of both sides for not reaching a bipartisan compromise on the vital legislation that aims to establish clearer rules dividing digital asset oversight between the CFTC and SEC.
The financier said Democrats will for Trump rather than on the merits of the legislation.
Scaramucci warned the , they would regret it during the November midterms.
The Senate heads into recess on Aug. 7. If the bill does not clear before then, September becomes the next realistic window, and a failed September vote likely pushes it past the midterms entirely.
Polymarket prices the odds of the bill becoming law in 2026 at 31% as of this writing.
