Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican member of the US House of Representatives known for her close ties to President Donald Trump, has filed a criminal complaint with the Justice Department against Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. Luna accuses Powell of making false statements to Congress on two separate occasions.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by Fox News Digital, Florida Rep. Luna accuses Powell of making “false statements” in her sworn testimony. The charges relate to Powell's testimony before the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee on June 25, 2025.

Luna stated that Powell “hid lavish details” and misrepresented the state of maintenance in his testimony regarding the renovation of the Eccles Building, the Fed's headquarters. He also alleged that Powell attributed the project's cost increase from $1.9 billion to $2.5 billion to “minor changes,” a claim Congressional documents have denied.

According to the criminal complaint, the project includes luxury features such as a VIP dining room, premium marble finishes, modern elevators, water features, and a rooftop garden. Luna argues that Powell misrepresented the existence of these features.

Luna announced last week on the X (formerly Twitter) platform that she would file a criminal complaint against Powell. Under US law, making false statements to Congress (i.e., lying under oath) can result in up to five years in prison and a fine.

Meanwhile, according to the trade publication Mortgage Professional, Jerome Powell denied all accusations and ordered an independent audit of the Eccles Building's renovation costs. A video tour and detailed information about the renovation project has been added to the Fed's official website.

Luna had previously written in a post on X that she thought Donald Trump would fire Powell. However, Trump stated in a statement on the matter that it was “very unlikely” he would fire Powell.
