Bithumb Lists Canton (CC) in Korean Won Market as Institutional Blockchain Eyes Retail Liquidity

Bithumb, South Korea's second-largest crypto exchange, has listed Canton (CC) in its Korean won market, bringing a blockchain used by Goldman Sachs, DTCC, and Citadel Securities as Canton Network participants into one of Asia's most active retail trading venues.

Bithumb announced the CC/KRW pair early Tuesday, with deposits opening within two hours of the notice and trading scheduled to begin at 14:00 KST. WuBlockchain reported the listing shortly after. Canton Coin (CC) trades at $0.1544 with a $6.0 billion market cap, up 1.2% in the 24 hours following the announcement.

Canton's Institutional Pedigree

Canton Network is a privacy-preserving blockchain developed by Digital Asset for the tokenization, trading, and settlement of real-world assets. Its investors include BNP Paribas and Tradeweb; Goldman Sachs, Citadel Securities, and DTCC have participated in the Canton Network as founding institutional users. Digital Asset closed a $355 million funding round led by a16z crypto earlier this month. The network has since added Visa and stablecoin issuer Brale for SBC stablecoin settlement trials and was among the eight blockchains included in Mastercard's card-settlement network expansion in June.

Korean Retail Access

The KRW listing shifts Canton's distribution channel. Until now, the network's principal audience has been regulated financial institutions building private, permissioned workflows for collateral management, repo financing, and intraday settlement. A Korean won pair on Bithumb opens the token to retail investors for whom dollar-denominated pairs or direct validator participation would otherwise be inaccessible.

South Korea's crypto retail market is among the largest in the world by per-capita volume. Bithumb has a pattern of listing institutional-grade assets as they attract mainstream attention. Canton Coin has been available on Kraken, Bybit, OKX, and KuCoin in USDT pairs ahead of the KRW addition. Canton Network has made no public statement on the Bithumb listing specifically.
