Plume, a global real-world asset network, has introduced the KRW-denominated stablecoin KRW1 to its ecosystem. The stablecoin is issued by BDACS, a Korean digital asset custody provider, and allows payments and investments to be made directly in Korean won on-chain. The integration gives Korean institutions a local currency entry point into Plume’s RWA infrastructure, reducing reliance on U.S. dollar settlement.
Plume selected the Korean won as its first non-USD currency amid growing regulatory clarity in South Korea. Recent amendments to the Capital Markets Act and the Electronic Securities Act established a legal framework for security token offerings, positioning the country as one of the more advanced RWA markets in Asia.
KRW1 was launched by BDACS in September 2025 and is fully backed by won-denominated deposits held in escrow at Woori Bank, a major Korean commercial bank. BDACS has completed a proof of concept covering deposits, token issuance, and on-chain verification, confirming technical and operational viability.
Through Plume, investors gain access to tokenized assets from global managers such as Apollo Global Management, an alternative investment firm, WisdomTree, a digital asset and ETF provider, and BlackOpal, a private credit platform. Asset types include real estate-backed loans, private funds, and government bonds.
