Stacks, a blockchain network built on Bitcoin, has activated the PoX-5 hardfork at Bitcoin block 960,230. The upgrade was completed without interruption and moves the network to a new set of consensus rules. Signers, node operators, and major exchange partners, including Binance, completed their migrations before activation.
PoX-5 is the first release in the Satoshi Upgrades series, which will introduce further changes to the Stacks protocol. The main change introduced by PoX-5 is the protocol foundation for Bitcoin Staking.
The upgrade adds Bitcoin Bonds, allowing eligible users to combine $BTC held on Bitcoin with STX on Stacks and earn $BTC yield while keeping custody of their assets.
The rollout will start with an institutional Genesis Bond before expanding to selected staking pools. PoX-5 also removes cooldown periods and simplifies participation in pooled staking.
