Plastiks, a plastic recovery verification platform, is expanding a Cardano-based system to verify plastic recovery. The platform creates digital records for brands and governments seeking reliable environmental data. It turns real-world recovery activities into immutable certificates on the blockchain.
The system issues Digital Recovery Certificates, often called Plastic Credits. These are recorded on the Cardano blockchain to ensure transparency and prevent false claims. The blockchain's low-energy design aligns with the platform's sustainability goals.
Plastiks verifies the work of recovery organizations like waste cooperatives and recyclers. It checks documents such as invoices and transport records. After validation, it issues non-tradable NFT certificates that store all proof on-chain.
The project received funding from Cardano's community treasury, Project Catalyst. This supports the development of open reporting tools and infrastructure.
Plastiks also works with the United Nations Development Programme. A pilot program in Armenia is testing real-time tracking of plastic recovery.
