Privacy-focused cryptocurrency project Zcash is preparing to activate the NU6.3 network update, codenamed Ironwood, on July 28, 2026.
According to the Zebra 6.0.0 release notes, the update will roll out at block 3,428,143 on the mainnet. This block height is expected to be reached around 4 PM Turkish time on July 28th.
The Ironwood update will add a new hidden transaction pool and v6 transaction format to the Zcash network. The new pool will reuse the Action structure from the Orchard system and the Halo2 proof-of-work system, while having its own note-commit tree, nullifier set, chain value pool, and transaction history metadata.
Among the most notable features of the update are confidential notes designed to be recoverable against future quantum computing-related risks, and a “turnstile” mechanism aimed at strengthening the verification of $ZEC supply.
This mechanism aims to increase oversight of the total supply following concerns about a potential security vulnerability in the old Orchard pool that could lead to the production of counterfeit $ZEC. With Ironwood, the goal is to more strongly control the consistency of the supply during the transfer of funds to the new pool. Previously, there was significant criticism regarding the possibility of counterfeit tokens due to the inability to verify the supply of Zcash.
Ironwood activation on the test network was previously set at a block height of 4,134,000.
