Tesla Stops Payments With Bitcoins

American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has stopped payments with bitcoin cryptocurrency due to high energy consumption. The rapidly growing energy consumption for bitcoin production and cryptocurrency transactions is worrying, Tesla CEO Elon MUSK said on Twitter.

Musk intends to re-accept bitcoin as a means of payment, if the bitcoin mining will not harm the environment. Tesla no longer wants to trade bitcoin until the energy balance improves, Musk said. In its most recent financial quarter, the company made nearly $100 mln in bitcoin sales.

For now, Tesla plans to consider other cryptocurrencies that use less energy for mining.
